Lanikai Pillbox Hike

It's so rare that the Hubby gets time off during the week. He got last Friday off so we decided to make the most of it. We hopped in the car and drove to the East Coast of Hawaii to hike the Lanikai Pillbox. It was rough terrain, very different for this Florida girl and the previous hikes we have done. I loved it!

These are apparently called 'pillboxes'. There are two on this hike, hence giving it it's name.

The Mokes

Over on this side if Bellows AFB and in the horizon on the left you can vaguely see another Hawaiian island, Molokai.

 Such a fascinating flower!

Hawaii hikes we have done so far:
Diamond Head
Koko Head x3
Makapuu Lighthouse Trail

LUCKY WE LIVE HAWAII! :)

So glad to see you getting out there and really exploring the island. Hawaii has such beautiful, unpredictable terrain - there is so much to do and see. That is one thing I really try to get across to my friends and family who visit; yes, we have some of the most beautiful beaches (and amazing weather, to boot), but Hawaii is much more than mai tais and the beach. I want everyone to see and experience the beauty that makes it paradise!

(sorry...off my soapbox now)

Beautiful! I would love a good hike...and, as you know, there are not many (any?) of those in central FL. We are going out to Montana this summer and I cannot wait for the mountainous terrain!!
