DATING

Have I been dating anyone? Nope. I am too busy, honestly. Would I love someone to wine and dine me? Of course. But right now, I just don't have the energy or time to spend on someone. No men are pursuing me. I am not pursuing anyone. I don't want my time wasted nor do I want to waste theirs. Seriously, dating is exhausting. I am no longer on any dating sites. I have no time for it. Last night I had a minor meltdown. About being single and not knowing where or when my life is going, who I will be with, wanting to leave my hometown, jobs, etc. Happens like once a month, if ya know what I mean. But, that's not what I want to talk about.

Have y'all heard of Andy Stanley of North Point Community Church?

I hadn't either til last night. Someone told me about his "Love, Sex & Dating" series. I've spent all morning listening to part 1- The Right Person Myth.

*Even if you aren't a Christian, this is a very good series for those who are single.*

Andy asks this important question:

Are you who the person you are looking for is looking for?

Powerful question, right?

We (single people) shouldn't be asking how to FIND the right person, but how to BECOME the right person. Relationships take work and I think a lot of us forget that.

It's a 4 part series, I highly suggest listening to them.

WILW

-It's been such an odd month. FULL of HAPPINESS, despite the chaotic-ness of my life.

-I am loving that I was a big girl last night at the doctor's office! Got a tetanus shot. I didn't sweat, get anxiety, didn't freak out or pass out. She actually was sneaky about it. We were talking and next thing I know I am getting jabbed in the arm. Smooth, very smooth. But today.... MY ARM HURTS SO BAD!

-I am loving that I get to go on a missions trip with my church!!! {hence why I got the tetanus shot. No-I don't go get shots for fun} I would love to be able to go out of the country to Africa or other third-world countries and do mission work. Sadly, I have not the time or money. God knows my heart and the desire to help others. My church is going up to Georgia for a short week to help build a Habitat for Humanity home. I prayed that I would be able to go and it was answered. So so thankful. Now I just hope I will be of use. I am far from a handy-man.

-I am loving this blog post.... Dear Ryan Gosling. If you love him, you have to read it.

-I am oddly loving running at 5:30a. It is so nice! Sure it's rough getting up that early, but once you are out it's so worth it. I've been doing it for 2 1/2 wks now. Except for today, my arm was too sore. No really, I couldn't get out of bed today. Being a big girl is tough some times.

-I am loving this sweet boy. We are trying a new obedience class tonight from one of the top K9 trainers in town. {He trained the search dog that was involved in the Casey Anthony trial.} I am stoked. Jax probably won't be, lol. He isn't a bad dog by any means, he just needs to learn who is the boss. I might also get him trained for protection. I do a lot by myself so feeling safe and protected is huge. If that works out then he will for sure be a total BA.

Be Still My Heart

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Better yet- HAPPY FALL!!!!!!

{northerners, send some cool weather down to FL, please and thanks!}

My day started off with a nice 5:30 am run, jammin' out to Mumford & Sons while getting ready for work, and treating myself to a Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Today.... I.AM.HAPPY. Focusing on soaking up with little things that bring me joy, right here, right now, in this very moment on THIS day. Not yesterday, not in the future, right now. Focused on being present

Yesterday I found myself throughout the day screaming "BE STILL MICHELLE" and "BE STILL MY HEART". My mind is constantly thinking/worrying of a million things and I am just always left feeling completely overwhelmed. Before going to bible study last night, I asked God to clear my mind, give me peace, and focus. And ya know what?? He did just that

"Be still and know that I am God" -Psalm 46:10

Find beauty and thanks in the little things today, friends.

Have a lovely weekend!!!

Mine is going to be a busy one, but starting it off right with a dinner date with my seester.

(at a plain jane automobile concert, and yes, we look nothing like)

It's OK Thursday!

Linking up for the first time with Amber and Neely

Its Ok Thursdays

IT'S OK...

...to be annoyed with all the complaints about the changes Facebook made. Hello people!? Facebook changes ALL the time. It's a free service. If you can't handle it or don't like it, then delete your account. Just sayin'.

...to have my heart pitter-patter over messages, skype dates, and phone calls from a certain boy. This one is special.

...to be in a blogging funk or life funk for that matter. I feel like a lot of us are in a blogging rut lately.

...to hide all the miniature Snicker's from the candy dish on my desk at work. Those are MINE people. Don't look at me like that. I am a chocoholic. I can't help it.

...to avoid doing things in the evening or stay up later than usual because it's season premiere week of Fall TV. But....poor Jax baby.

"play with me mommy"

...to say NO, for a change, to giving out free cupcakes. I can't do it anymore.

...to paint my nails............ at work.

...to not have high expectations for The Ohio State Buckeyes this year.

...to have a melt down because you have no idea where your life is going. That's when you give it all to God.

"Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest"
(Matthew 11:28, NASB)

Date a Girl Who Reads

Date a Girl Who Reads
by Rosemarie Urquico

Date a girl who reads. Date a girl who spends her money on books instead of clothes. She has problems with closet space because she has too many books. Date a girl who has a list of books she wants to read, who has had a library card since she was twelve.

Find a girl who reads. You’ll know that she does because she will always have an unread book in her bag. She’s the one lovingly looking over the shelves in the bookstore, the one who quietly cries out when she finds the book she wants. You see the weird chick sniffing the pages of an old book in a second hand book shop? That’s the reader. They can never resist smelling the pages, especially when they are yellow.

She’s the girl reading while waiting in that coffee shop down the street. If you take a peek at her mug, the non-dairy creamer is floating on top because she’s kind of engrossed already. Lost in a world of the author’s making. Sit down. She might give you a glare, as most girls who read do not like to be interrupted. Ask her if she likes the book.

Buy her another cup of coffee.

Let her know what you really think of Murakami. See if she got through the first chapter of Fellowship. Understand that if she says she understood James Joyce’s Ulysses she’s just saying that to sound intelligent. Ask her if she loves Alice or she would like to be Alice.

It’s easy to date a girl who reads. Give her books for her birthday, for Christmas, and for anniversaries. Give her the gift of words, in poetry, in song. Give her Neruda, Pound, Sexton, Cummings. Let her know that you understand that words are love. Understand that she knows the difference between books and reality but by God, she’s going to try to make her life a little like her favorite book. It will never be your fault if she does.

She has to give it a shot somehow.

Lie to her. If she understands syntax, she will understand your need to lie. Behind words are other things: motivation, value, nuance, dialogue. It will not be the end of the world.

Fail her. Because a girl who reads knows that failure always leads up to the climax. Because girls who understand that all things will come to end. That you can always write a sequel. That you can begin again and again and still be the hero. That life is meant to have a villain or two.

Why be frightened of everything that you are not? Girls who read understand that people, like characters, develop. Except in the Twilight series.

If you find a girl who reads, keep her close. When you find her up at 2 AM clutching a book to her chest and weeping, make her a cup of tea and hold her. You may lose her for a couple of hours but she will always come back to you. She’ll talk as if the characters in the book are real, because for a while, they always are.

You will propose on a hot air balloon. Or during a rock concert. Or very casually next time she’s sick. Over Skype.

You will smile so hard you will wonder why your heart hasn’t burst and bled out all over your chest yet. You will write the story of your lives, have kids with strange names and even stranger tastes. She will introduce your children to the Cat in the Hat and Aslan, maybe in the same day. You will walk the winters of your old age together and she will recite Keats under her breath while you shake the snow off your boots.

Date a girl who reads because you deserve it. You deserve a girl who can give you the most colorful life imaginable. If you can only give her monotony, and stale hours and half-baked proposals, then you’re better off alone. If you want the world and the worlds beyond it, date a girl who reads.

Or better yet, date a girl who writes.

Where is God?

Have you ever asked that question?

"Where is God in all of this? Why does he let such horrible things happen?"

I know I have. Many times.

I have faced many storms. You have too. Our Country has as well.

We all remember where we were when the events of 9/11 unfolded.

Well I wanted to share my devotional from Bible Gateway because I thought it was wonderful.

"The Lord is my light and the one who saves me. So why should I fear anyone? The Lord protects my life. So why should I be afraid? Evil people may try to destroy my body. My enemies and those who hate me attack me, but they are overwhelmed and defeated. If an army surrounds me, I will not be afraid. If war breaks out, I will trust the Lord." (Psalm 27:1-3, NCV)

I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when the phone rang and my husband said, "Honey, you need to turn on the television - right now." It was the middle of the day and I was busy cleaning house, doing laundry and trying to cram in an hour of study time, but the sadness and dread in my husband's voice stopped me in my tracks. Something was very wrong. Still, I was totally unprepared for the horrific scene that played out in vivid reality on the television screen before me. I stared in shock at the surreal images of two airplanes flying into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Both towers collapsed - killing thousands of innocent people - and forever changing life as we know it.

Why bad things happen to good people is a question we have been asking since time began. I have been a Christ follower for many years. I am a Christian author and speaker and the wife of a pastor. Over the years, God has brought me out of more pits than I can count and I have literally attended church since the day I was born. My faith in God should be unwavering and I should never doubt or question Him or His plan. But sometimes I do.

You may be offended at my next statement, but if I am brutally honest, my faulty human mind and sin-tainted heart can almost - almost come to grips with such horrendous circumstances happening to someone who is evil and has turned their back on God. Bad things should happen to bad people and good things should happen to good people. Sounds logical and fair - right?

You and I both know that life is not fair and that our human logic is a shallow substitute for God's sovereignty. We are broken people living in a broken world. Bad things do happen to good people while those who mock God seem to prosper, and it's been that way for a long time. Take Job for example.

Job was an extraordinary man, husband, father and leader who served God faithfully. His faithfulness to God in prosperity was a powerful testimony, but His faithfulness to God in the face of death, pain and despair was even more powerful. Did Job doubt and question God? Absolutely!  Did Job openly and honestly grieve his loss and weep in his pain? Yes, but he remained faithful to God, even when he did not understand why God would let him endure such suffering and even when his heart and body was broken. God was pleased with Job and rewarded him for his faithfulness.

Storms come in all shapes and sizes. The lab report comes back malignant. The school calls, demanding that you pick up your child who has just been expelled. Your husband informs you that he no longer wants to be married to you. Your boss calls you into his office to let you know that you are being fired. Financial disaster seems certain while dependable friends seem to vanish. Yes, storms will come and bad things will happen - even to fully devoted followers of God. Where is God when the winds pick up and the churning waters pummel your rocking boat? God is where He has always been and always will be - in the midst of every stormy circumstance. Run into His waiting arms when you are afraid. Trust Him - even though you may not understand what is happening in your life.

He is with you. Always.

AMEN.

You're Alive! Isn't that everything?

{note: this post isn't meant to bash on anyone. i hope you don't take it that way}

My mom watches the news every evening. I personally can't stand watching the news. {hello that's what twitter is for!} Anyway, they were showing coverage of the destruction that crazy lady Hurricane Irene made. This is when I got annoyed. So many people are so upset and devastated. I get it. It sucks. But so many people were crying saying how they lost everything.

Hold on a second. Everything. Really??

YOU ARE ALIVE.

Did you hear me??

YOU   ARE    ALIVE.

Isn't that EVERYTHING and then some?!?!

Material possessions can be replaced. Yeah it sucks and is real inconvenient, but I think these people need to be slapped in the face.

They should be thanking and praising God. For they were kept safe. Heck these people should be clinging to God. Praying. Did they forget God provides?? That He doesn't abandon His children?!

Am I being too harsh??

Maybe.

My favorite Max Lucado sent an email to me {yeah we tight like that} that pushed me to write this:

“Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.” (Matthew 24: 4-8 NIV)

In other words, Jesus basically says
"Don't freak out when bad stuff happens!"

"Everything will work out in the end. If it's not working out, it's not the end."

And there's my two cents for the day.
Byeeee.
