Happies

The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up

*HAPPIES*

Gym Time! Seriously, I can't tell you how amazing I feel since being back at it. I have some serious goals and am so excited to reach them!

Hubby showing off. Ow ow!

FOSTER PUPPIES!

I get this babe today!

This little girl is the cutest! I wish I could keep her!

Jax is so sweet and gentle! He's never been around a puppy.

I actually don't have any 'crappies', unless you consider not having many friends here, studying, wishing i could have a million puppies crappy?! Haha.

Shockingly, I have had ZERO beach time this week so I am very ready to make up for it this weekend!

Have a good one y'all!

Getting back into it...

Now that we live closer to post, we are able to use the military gym that is provided for us for free. {or better yet, we have no excuse now}. I am happier than a bird with a french fry, y'all! It was hard to not be in the gym. Before the Husband and I got married and before I moved out here, my life was work and gym. The gym came to be my relief, my 'me' time. I had loved seeing the progress that my body was making. It was VERY hard to workout with what I had at home, but we couldn't afford a Hawaii gym membership and it was too far of a drive to the base gym.

That being said, it's been very hard on me to pretty much have to start all over. Knowing the weight I use to be able to lift, to then having to go back to the 'baby' weights has flat out sucked. It's also been humbling and motivating.

Everyone starts somewhere, it's not a race.

By the way, working out with your Husband is 10x more fun! Even if he tries to tell you what to do.

Is it 'rest day' yet?!

Inspire Me: Healthy

All In My Twenties

Yesterday I was catching up on Raven's blog and I found her new link up and thought it was perfectly awesome and inspiring because I have been down in the dumps this week.

Since this is my first time linking up I'll share some stuff. I eat pretty clean on the regular, no real issue there. One of the best lifestyle/diet changes I made. *You can really only receive the full results you want by eating clean.* (I highly recommend checking out Jamie Eason's LiveFit program. It's free, too!) I was working out 5-6 days a week on this killer workout program when I was back home in Florida. I really started to see some nice definition. Well then came my sisters wedding, moving to Hawaii with no access to a gym because of no car. I tried running outside in the morning since I have free time since I am currently jobless but that was a big fat no go. I was bored. I wanted my weights back. Surprisingly and thankfully I haven't gained any weight but I have lost some muscle and strength. Boo.

Well... I got a car this past weekend so I bucked up the courage today to check out a Spin class on base. I was soooo nervous y'all. This is my first interaction on base, in a new town and state for that matter, a new gym and new lifestyle.

I survived. I felt SO good afterwards. Freaking LOVE endorphins. I didn't really talk to the other ladies in the class with me but it wasn't all that bad. The spin instructor wasn't the best nor was the music but I got my butt kicked. I am gonna go every day during the week now til I get a job and then I'll have to figure something else out. I freaking live in Hawaii. I need a nice beach bod people!

What I am more excited about is that this gym has the basic equipment for me to be able to do some Crossfit workouts! Woop woop! Thinking I might try that out tomorrow.

I hope to post some progress pictures, eventually, once I can get a set routine!

Go check out the link up!

Get out there and work up a sweat!!

Fitness Talk

{i love this}

It seems that Tuesday's have turned into fitness talks!

Hope y'all don't mind!

Everyone needs a lil {or a lot} of motivation every now and then!

"THE SWEAT, THE TIME, THE DEVOTION... IT PAYS OFF."

I got my body fat percentage checked today.

Stats:

March 16
Weight: 118
Body Fat %: 24

April 17
Weight: 116
Body Fat %: 22

I am in the category considered "fit" or "healthy" for women.

Do you see that?!?! I AM DOWN 2% in BF!!!
It's a small number but it means so much!
My hard work and dedication is paying off. Seeing the results is what really keeps me motivated.
My weight, I could care less about, as I have previously talked about.

I also found an awesome recipe for those looking for a quick meal on-the-go or for work.

Jamie Eason's Turkey Meatloaf Muffins- they are delicious.

Get moving, friends!

xoxo.

Friday's Letters!

{y'all he did this for five minutes! apparently he didn't want it to be bed time}

Dear Jax baby, you are the bestest furbaby ever.

Dear April 13th, be kind to my sister today, it's her birthday! She feels super old (25) and I find it my duty as her older, more mature sister to rub it in as much as possible. Muahahahaha.

Dear Life, you have been wonderful this year.

Dear Body, we are finally getting along, let's keep it that way, I kinda love it.

Dear Shorts, after years of despising summer because I hate the way I look in shorts, I have finally found comfort in wearing you again. Welcome back into my life.

Dear God, you have shown me so much the past few months. My heart has been changing. Thank you for taking me the long route sometimes. I know now that I needed it.

Dear Francis Chan, I am reading your book Crazy Love again (because I was able to DL it for free on my Kindle! Holla!) and it's really sinking in this time. You're an inspiration.

Dear Soldier Boy, 8 days! EIGHT DAYS. Can't wait to walk through that airport and see your handsome smiling face. And I kinda sorta can't wait til we are FB official. Hehehe. Love you!

Have an awesome weekend friends!

FT2- I DID IT!

Fitness Talk 2:

Guess what y'all?!

Man, I don't even know where to begin. It's been a real tough journey. There were many many days where I had to force myself out the door/fight with my laziness/fight my way to the weights at the gym/eat healthy. The last week was the hardest, as mentioned before, because of the cardio workouts. I won't go into this too much more since I already talked about my experience here.

Before starting this program, by no means was I overweight. I ate awful though. I treated my body like a waste basket. And you can tell. I have some saddlebags and cellulite that my little frame should not have. I didn't step on a scale the entire 12 weeks because losing weight was not my end goal. I'm 5'2 and weighed 120lbs before starting. At the end of this program I now weigh 118lbs.  Therefore I have a lot more work to do. I've seen a huge improvement. My legs have not only gained muscle but they have leaned out, abs/lovehandles are shrinking, and my arms have gained muscle/leaned out. Seeing the progress my body has made makes myself even that more motivated to keep it going. I refuse to let myself slip again!

Friends, I dare you to ditch the scale!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alright, here are the raw, unedited pictures.
It's hard to show these but I want y'all to see my progress.
And I want to document it for myself.

No pictures of my legs though.
I am not at a point where I am happy with them to be able to show them off.

note to self: take better pictures or have someone else take them for you.

PHASE 1

You can pretty much see I am just all flab. No definition.

PHASE 2

leaner, obliques making a slight comeback.

PHASE 3

I love my arms.

The supplements I took:

-most found via bodybuilding.com
-C4 Extreme - Blue Razz is a booster drink. I take it before a run or leg workout.
-I don't really like the RELOAD.
-Accelerade - Orange is my favorite drink while on a run or during a workout.
-I use chocolate whey protein for after my workouts, mixed with unsweetend vanilla almond milk.
-I use the vanilla whey protein (bought at Walmart) for my morning smoothies or to put into recipes.

Thank you to all who have motivated/encouraged/loved on me!

Fitness Talk

Hey friends!!!

Have a seat. Go refill your coffee.

Or leave. No hard feelings if you do.

I have a bunch of jumbled up thoughts, all fitness related, as I am on my last week of Jamie Eason's LiveFit 12 week training program. I might share the before and after pictures on here, but I am not sure if I am ready to be that vulnerable.

The results I have gotten are amazing. I am not where I want to be but I am far from where I use to be. I have also become a lil bit obsessed with weight training. I even find myself lusting over athletic shoes... what the what?!

Don't workout to lose weight, workout to get fit!!!!!!
{you will lose weight in the process!}

MUSTS {in my own opinion}:

1. EAT CLEAN, EAT CLEAN, EAT CLEAN!!! Jamie Eason can help you with it! Yes, it's a lot of work (meal prep, grocery shopping, dining out, etc). Yes, it requires a lifestyle change. But hey, you wanna get to your goal? You want that hot bod? OK then. This is the first and most important step. Even if you aren't training, this is so so so good for you!!! I can not express it enough. Yes, I still have 'cheat meals' and yes I still drink a Dr. Pepper (my one true love) every now and then but honestly, I don't think people realize what they are putting into their bodies. It's going to take you 10x more work to work off that can of soda. Make smart choices. It'll pay off. Trust me.
2. WEIGHT TRAIN. Once upon a time I thought I could lose weight and tone up by just doing cardio alone. Wrong. I saw very little results. You have got to weight train! It's important for your core and the weight will shed a whole lot easier as you lean up. No, you will not bulk up. It is almost impossible for women to bulk up. So stop using that as an excuse. Not sure how to use weights? Bodybuilding.com! They have instructional videos of how to use weights and machines and for free! That's where I learned everything. Don't be afraid of getting in there with the men. Claim your bench and get to work. When weight training it is suggested to drink protein shakes within 30 minutes after your workout.
3. CARDIO. This is my nemesis. I have grown to loathe cardio. I'm struggling with it this week actually, but cardio is where your excess weight will come off and your muscle definition will start to show/you'll lean out.

Where do I get my inspiration/motivation? A lot has come from my results. Seeing my body change for the better keeps me going. But I also get it from Pinterest, following female athletes/bodybuilders (like Jamie Eason) on Facebook, and having someone to root you on, like Soldier Boy.

No gym membership? Another popular excuse, one I have used all too much. With the internet at your finger tips, there are plenty of at home workouts you can find. Get yourself a nice set of weights and get er done!

Have questions? Feel free to ask, I will do my best to answer, I am still learning!
Want to add to this list? Feel free to leave it in a comment.

i die

-i look hot scary
-how the heck did i run 13.1 miles last december? vomit.
-i can barely make it 3 miles. THREE!

-i am clearly aware how freaky my elbows are. im double-jointed. get over it.
-did you miss the fact that i'm a blonde now?
-and yes, i had to document this. it's rather pathetic.

A letter to the weak me

Found this letter on Facebook

I about died when my family decided to have a pizza night this weekend.
Some of you may think it's extreme, but I do help myself to a piece of chocolate, a Dr P or even a cheat meal to Tijuana Flats with coworkers. I have a goal in mind and I am determined to get there and eat as healthy as possible. I have my moments though, this is why I love this letter. A slap in the face for the weak me.

Dear Weak [Michelle],

I get it. You're dying for a piece of candy. Maybe it's not the candy (or the pastries brownies, or whatever), maybe you're bored, you're hungry, you're tired of thinking about the candy all day and you're just saying screw it. One bite, one piece, one serving/helping, and then i'm done, I'll go to the gym, I'll go home for the night, I'm still on track.

You're bored.

This is absolutely the stupidest reason imaginable to throw yourself off track, feel disappointed in yourself and your lack of self-control, give yourself a belly you'll have to work off for four days, screw up the carb deficit that I work hard every single day to create, feel cranky, avoid plans with friends or your boyfriend, dread the weekend, add stress to your already stressful life, etc. Remember, you never get bored of accidentally discovering how slim you are, whether it's in the fitting room, when lining up progress pictures, in the locker room at the gym, when you catch a glimpse of yourself in a window as you walk down the street, when someone calls you "slim" or "toned" or "fit". THOSE THINGS never get boring. Focus on how fun and exciting that part of the process is and ignore the rest. For my sake.

You're hungry.

Go drink four glasses of water right now. Back? OK. Are you still hungry? If so, email someone you can confide in. Or eat a protein bar, or go microwave some broccoli. You know that will fill you up and do good things for your body and your goals. You don't want the broccoli? Then you're not hungry.

You're saying "Screw it."

If you want to quit this journey, decide to quit and then you can eat pizza and drink beer every night. You an go out with your friends and eat hors d'oeuvres all night long. you won't feel good, but at least you will be free.

So...is it the freedom that you really want? No. You're having a momentary lapse. Well, think about me. The one who preps all her food for the week on Sunday night, the one with abs, the one who's going to stand up on stage in front of 10,000 people and turn her back and stick out her butt. I'm the one who feels awesome in her clothes, the one who prances around the gym like she owns the place, the one who drags herself out of bed to do early morning cardio, the one who inspires her family, and friends. Think about what you're doing to ME, Strong [enter your own name], when you let a momentary "oh screw it" overtake and overcome all of the hard work I put in every single day, every time I go to a bar and wave off the waiter when he asks what I want to drink, every time I skillfully assemble a healthy, trap-free meal at a restaurant while everyone else orders fries and a third (or fourth...) beer or regular Coke Dr Pepper.

And you know very well there's no such things as "Just One Bite."

Every single time you tell yourself you can handle having one taste of something, you're wrong. Is it because you're literally powerless in the face of sugar, is your insulin really swinging that hard that you can not resist? You know that you have a ton of self control. EVEN YOU (I obviously do). This isn't about saying no; by the time you've had the first bite of sugar, you've given UP on saying no. You're saying "yes," and you will continue to do so until it's time to go home or there is no more freakin' candy left in the bowl (did you REALLY want a Mounds yesterday? They're VILE!) So don't ever let yourself cross over into saying "yes" to junk. Say "NO" for HEAVEN SAKE!!

A message from me to you.

I love you (even though you are the weak version of me) because we are the same person. You have a ton to be proud of and you should love the process and love how far you have come. You can go even farther, and you will be around less and less as time passes, you won't have to read this letter as often. You are strong inside, this is only temporary, and it will pass. Now go get a cup of water and get back to kicking ass.

Love,
Strong [Michelle]

P.S. I'll be back tomorrow morning when you wake up.

{yeah...sorry...ill take it down a notch}

Miscellany Monday @
lowercase letters

1- Jax loves baths. I actually think he loves the aftermath of a bath. He goes haywire when it's drying time. Cracks me up! One of these days i'll record it.

2- I finally got some sun this weekend!!! Had a pool date with a bunch of my people. We boozed it up. Was so nice!!! I even got an inaugural burn. Hellloooo Spring!

3- Went to church from my bed on Sunday (Or as my dad calls it... Bedside Baptist). I isten online to either First Baptist Orlando or Andy Stanley's church, NorthPoint. NorthPoint's sermon was so good. This has not been off my mind since yesterday morning....

"You'll never know what God can do with what you have, until you bring it to Him."

4- The only thing that motivates me to get to the gym at 9AM on a Saturday... the fact that it will be dead and that it's legs day!

5- My new favorite snack?? A slice of 100% Whole Wheat Bread with 1tbsp of Peanut Butter and 1tsp of honey. I don't know who I have turned into!

Life Lately

My life lately??

Gym at 5/5:30AM
Work
Dinner
Prepare lunch for tomorrow
Walk Jax...if I can muster up the energy
Bed

How old am I, again??

My weight training program is kicking my rear, again. It's phase two (of three) and it includes a lot more weight training exercises/reps and thankfully we are allowed to do cardio in this phase. Something I have kind of missed.

I am also loving cooking {thank you pinterest!} and planning my meals, despite the extra time/effort I have to make to do it. Feeling good. I've been taking pictures to track the progress so I think by the end of this phase there should be a major difference in muscle tone. I haven't weighed myself in awhile, so I am not sure if I have actually lost or gained weight, but losing weight is not my goal here, which is so different for me. Very excited to see the results!

{if you are curious, I am doing Jamie Eason's Live Fit Trainer on BodyBuilding.com}

Pinterest Recipes I've Made Lately:

Just finished a really good book, for those interested!

Clean Eats

Would you be surprised to hear that there really aren’t any fitness goals you can achieve without it?
"The above question may seem extreme, but the simple truth is, you just cannot get healthy without eating healthy. You can exercise from the time the rooster crows until the cows come home, but if you make a run through your local drive-through afterwards, you just are not going to get anywhere fast.
Food is the big ticket to good health. If you eat garbage, your body will show it. If you eat whole, healthy and fresh foods, your body, skin and soul will glow with health that gives you endless energy." -Tiffany @ The Gracious Pantry
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's a lifestyle change. Y'all may have to clean out your pantry of bad foods, it takes strong will, etc, but if I can do it, you can too. Y'all, I am lazy when it comes to making dinner. It's.... not my thing. But, I have found some great websites with easy and delicious recipes! I have ended up loving putting together some meals!

Favorite Foodie Sites:

Favorite Recipes:
Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

{my notes: quinoa, black beans, broccoli, zucchini are your friends. I stock up on these. Drink your body weight in water. Cut back on soda!}

This post is to encourage all of you to eat healthy!!!
We aren't getting younger my dear friends.

Miscellany Monday

Miscellany Monday @
lowercase letters

{one} I am miserable today. Every single muscle in my body is aching. A part from my clean eating diet... I started Jamie Eason's 12 week Live Fit program. (aka-weight training) Last year I solely focused on cardio/running so my muscles are very weak. I did forget how much I love weight training!

{two} Because of #one, my entire weekend was spent being lazy. Sometimes, you just need those.

{i know you're jealous of my tv and bunny ears}

{three} I got to catch up and have lunch with my Big. Love that girl so much.

{circa 2008}

{four} I signed up for Heather and Katie's book swap and got some great books for my kindle- The Help, Reshaping it All, and Between The Lines. Thanks Kodie! Can't wait to read them!

{five} Confession: I am in love with Green Monsters. {thanks chels}

{six} I am ready for this week to be over, already. I get to see The Civil Wars on Friday and Miranda Lambert on Saturday, then Super Bowl Sunday! Busy, but fun weekend!!

Have a great Monday, friends!
