Just Sayin'

{this is not jax. pic was found via pinterest}

I VERY much agree with this photo.

Do you?

I have been working on re-training Jax because of his behavior. Who better than to look to the Dog Whisperer?! I checked out Cesar Milan's website, and found many helpful, interesting and wonderful tips. One that really stood out to me is when he talks about having to train myself , not just Jax, to change my ways, in order to posses the role of the leader. I, unfortunately, do not posses the Type A, Alpha Male personality so this is a bit more of a struggle, but if I can change and stick with it, so too will Jax.

I def saw a change in him when I walked him last night, also because he hates his chest collar. Sunday night we did not get along well on our walk. Little improvements and signs that it's working.

I really suggest you check out Cesar Milan's website, dawg.

Get it?

Yeah...

This concludes my doggie talk of the day.

LOVE thar picture it is 100% true! Our family loves Cesar (I wonder why haha). But luckily for you Jax is mix of very loyal and obedient breeds so it shouldn't be to hard to retrain him. I'm lucky Miley knows she can come to me to cuddle but also knows who's boss :) I do know what you're talking about with the not having the alpha male personality though..when Tony's around she listens to him sooo much quicker and better than she does with me. Good luck with Jax though I'm sure he will re-learn quickly as long as you stick with it. If you have any questions let us know my mom knows a lot about training dogs from all the rotties :)

I agree, too! Glenda is part pit and thankfully her behavior isn't too bad. We're pretty sure she was abused and she's very submissive, but she doesn't listen to me so well. We're working on that and walks are no longer a fight!

Thank you so much for the link. Madigan has been having some problems getting aggressive with other dogs. She's pretty little so I'm not worried about her hurting anyone but she's really annoying to walk with sometimes and I'm afraid she's going to start a fight she can't finish. Definitely will check out the website!

Cesar Milan is TRULY God's little helper for our beloved animals. I had no idea that in the 70s or 80s they blamed those breeds of dogs...I wonder what for? hmmm... Great post though. I am not going to lie. There is a man at our condo complex that owns 2 pits. It doesn't help him at all that in fact, his dogs are QUITE aggressive. He has lashed out verbally at a few of my neighbors screaming at them to keep their dogs back. Ok seriously dude are you looking to get kicked out? what are you doing with 2 HUGE heavy strong dogs that already have a bad rep just bec of their breed? Needless to say we avoid walking ANYWHERE near his place.

He's just precious! So funny my husband and I were talking about this the other night because we have two mastiffs and everyone crosses the street when they see them. We were talking about pit bulls and how they get a bad rap but I firmly believe it is how you raise a dog and what environment they are in. He's so cute!! I've recently come across your blog and I love...a new follower!!!

So true! I love this picture. I've had a full pit and currently have a half pit pup. I don't even tell people what she is because people act so ridiculous. It's ALL about how you raise them. Right now my dog's biggest problem is chewing on everything! This post couldn't have come at a better time - off to check out his site now :)

Thanks!

That is SO true. My old roommate got a baby pit when we were living together, and Theo was the sweetest baby ever. He thought he was a lap dog :)

Love this!! My sweet little baby pit bull is too adorable to be blamed. My lab is actually the problem child...she is a MESS to walk!

this is a great post.. it really is all in the owner... we had jonah sent away for a month when he was a puppy.. the training worked for a little bit once he got home but we really let it slip... it was all our fault.. now he counter surfs, jumps on people, etc... hah.. i need to watch cesar! :)

As the owner of two healthy, happy, precious pit bulls myself, I COMPLETELY agree with that quote/photo and this post! :)

i totally agree. i was upset when i went to santa cruz this weekend and its strictly unfriendly towards four legged friends. i was super upset because santa cruz is 45 minutes away from our house, and our dog goes everywhere we do, hes an explorer and adventurer just like us! and of ALL the places on the cali coast, santa cruz doesn't let dogs on the boardwalk or downtown areas. so annoying. or on all of the beaches except for one! its just lame! okay now that i'm done ranting. I love your blog lol :)

Awww what a precious animal. I know a couple of people who have pit bulls and they're the sweetest dogs ever... it really depends on the people who raise/train them! Humans have a responsibility to animals. How interesting that Cesar Milan says to train yourself before you train your dog... you tell that Jax who's boss! Then give him big smooches when he does something right. ;)

He'll learn to listen to you eventually, just keep working with him.

Wow that quote is just... wow. Total food for thought.

i'm a little touchy on this subject. my beagle was almost killed by my ex-best friend's pit bull who was very well-behaved and sweet & she followed the training of Cesar.

i think it's in all the of listed dog's blood...but keeping them away from the situation is the only way to guarantee violence won't happen.

OMG, this is so true. Love Cesar! And I love all dogs. I hate that some breeds get a bad rap because of how people treat them. Love this post!
