One Word

I am joining Alece of Grit&Glory for One Word 2011.

[read more about it here]

I first read about it Jan. 3 and had thought about what my word would be for days upon days now. Many words popped up in my head but nothing stuck out to me. I prayed God would give me a clear sign of one simple, but powerful word. A day or two went by.

I was casually emailing back and forth a very sweet blogger who has become a very dear friend of mine. Then... there it was. The word. I didn't know whether to cry or laugh. I sat here stunned.
It was so clear. Thank you God.

My word...

DANCE

Last week I read a quote that made me smile:
"DANCE with God, He will let the right one cut in."

+

"There is...a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to DANCE" -Ecclesiastes 3:4

I read somewhere that doing God's will is a lot like dancing. When two people try to lead, nothing feels right. The movement doesn't flow with the music, and everything is uncomfortable and jerky. When one person realizes that, and lets the other lead, both bodies begin to flow with the music. One gives gentle cues, perhaps with a nudge to the back or by pressing lightly in one direction or another. It's as if two become one body, moving beautifully. The dance takes surrender, willingness, and attentiveness from one person and gentle guidance and skill from the other.

This year I will DANCE together with God, trusting Him to lead and to guide me through each season of my life.

What's your One Word?

Great post! Your word paints such a beautiful picture. I have alwasy liked the quote "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass... It's about learning to DANCE in the rain." What a perfect word for 2011.

I love this so much. I think it's the perfect word for you, and I just love the illusion of dancing with God. Dancing was my thing for 18 years after all :)

And my word came to me in church yesterday, even before I heard of one-word challenges (K-Love is doing something similar) and I was blown away to think that God gave me mine even before I knew what it was! But my word for 2011 is selfless. Oh that I would love all love for myself and give all that love to HIM...

Love this! I'm sure you've also heard the quote "Dance like no one's watching" =) A friend of mine who is a dancer also tatooed "Dance like DAvid" on the arch of her foot...and David is my fave Bible Character--the quote is in reference to David dancing in the street (yes the part where he's naked haha) but in complete gratitude to the Lord =)

I'll have to think of my word this year!

This is amazing. Such a perfect word and goal for the year I think. Something to remind of the intimacy of a relationship with God and something to help you find joy amidst experiences in this world. Very inspiring.

I've been prayerfully considering my own word for the year, and I think I've almost got it. :)
